An Atelier Anaiis manicure is not a conventional manicure performed more carefully. It is a five-part nail care system designed around the natural nail and surrounding skin—from understanding where your nails are starting to carefully correcting existing damage and protecting the progress that follows.

From the outside, an Atelier Anaiis appointment can look deceptively familiar: nail care, gel polish, color. But the resemblance to a conventional manicure ends there.

Atelier Anaiis clients aren't coming to us because they simply want their nails painted quickly. They come because their nails break, peel, feel weak, or because biting and picking have damaged the nail and surrounding skin. This work requires a fundamentally different service structure.

Our work is built around five pillars.

A Few Ground Rules

At our Philadelphia nail care studio, clients do not choose services, à la carte. Instead, they follow a long-term treatment plan that has been created specifically for their nail care needs. We exclusively use gel products that align with our “Gel as Protection” philosophy.  

Importantly, we do not use electric nail drills, ever. As such, we do not remove products from other places.

1. Visioning

You may be surprised to see that the first step of our system is the online intake form. For many people who are used to walking into a nail salon and having the nail technician “do their nails,” filling out a form before they even arrive is entirely unfamiliar. This is made even more jarring by the fact that the walk-in model is how 99% of the nail industry conducts their day to day business, so naturally it has permeated the collective consciousness on what a manicure service looks like and feels like over the decades. 

The intake form allows us to read, in your own words, your unique hopes and goals in working with us, along with the nail problems you’ve been struggling with. It also allows us to pair an image to your thoughts, through the photo requirement of your current nails. It gives us a Vision.

Without knowing where you and your nails are coming from, we cannot envision or measure the progress we make together. 

After studying the intake form submission, we respond with an outline of the starting treatment plan, along with an explanation of how we aim to approach our work, pricing, availability, and a booking link.

2. Grounding

You’ve booked your first appointment and have now arrived at our verdant studio. Once you’re seated, we begin by taking your hands into ours to discuss the current state of your nails. 

What have you been struggling with? How much nail damage are we seeing? What about damage to the skin surrounding the nail plate? What have been your nail habits? Why do you think your nails became the way they became? What do we think was the reason? What will we do today to treat your nails? Why will we do these treatments?

We always begin every appointment by taking the time to root ourselves in the current state of your nails.

This matters because as damaged nails heal, they rarely present in the same way from appointment to appointment.

By reassessing the nail plate and surrounding skin each time, we find what works best for you by fine tuning the amount of corrective care and length maintained according to what your nails actually need. This attention to your singular, unique needs goes beyond just being competent in our work. 

Grounding builds on the work we began in the Visioning stage through the intake form, as being in-person allows us more time to discuss your nails in detail. It’s also a valuable time for you to ask questions you’ve been curious about. 

By Grounding, we have a reference point – a place to measure progress against at every appointment, to see what aspects of the service needs to be fine tuned.

3. Shaping

We begin the physical work by clipping the free edge, or natural nail tips, and using a hand file to shape it into the desired form. At Atelier Anaiis, we never use electric nail drills, as it is, in our opinion, the single biggest reason for nail damage from manicures. Because most nail professionals believe E-files to be an essential tool, to find a nail service that forgoes E-files is exceptionally rare.

Our hand-only techniques serve as one of the catalysts for the transformation we’re able to bring about. 

For returning clients, this stage is also where our gentle soak-off of products we applied takes place. By soaking off the products without using E-files, we maintain the structural integrity of the natural nail, so that it can continue to build on itself. In this way, your nails become stronger and healthier appointment by appointment, something that would never happen if electric nail drills were to continue destroying progress at every appointment. 

Shaping is about achieving symmetry across all nails, a subtle point that differentiates well-cared for nails. Depending on how you’ve used your hands throughout your life, your fingers and nails have adapted to those often-done tasks, changing its direction of growth.

A nail that's too long or poorly balanced in the context of how you use your hands is more vulnerable to catching, bending, and breaking.

For clients trying to retain stronger, healthier growth, Shaping is therefore a crucial consideration.

Using hand files certainly takes longer and requires more sustained attention than using electric nail drills. But the very fact that it exponentially lowers the risk of nail damage makes it an all-too-important benefit for our clients.

4. Corrective Care

In many manicures, work on the skin surrounding the nails is light preparation for the polish.

At Atelier Anaiis, it is a core treatment in its own right.

In terms of sheer time spent, Corrective Care represents the meat of the matter, as we spend 75% of every appointment on this stage. It’s the reason why we maintain a peaceful, quiet working environment, a far cry from the hustle and bustle of traditional nail salons. 

In the Corrective Care portion of the service, we carefully treat the nail folds, nail walls, and the skin surrounding the nail plate using hand tools. Each step requires unwavering focus, as we carry out each treatment. These treatments are known to our clients as Eponychium Reshaping, Damaged Skin Removal, and Overgrown Hardened Skin Removal.

Eponychium Reshaping

You may be familiar with the term “cuticle care.” Many prospects detail the lack of cuticle care as something that they wished had been better in previous nail services. But we’re here to tell you: cuticle care is not nearly enough to continue growing healthy, strong nails. 

It’s crucial to distinguish cuticles from living skin: cuticles are dead skin cells at the base of the nails. Fascinatingly, we’ve observed that the worse shape your nails are in, the more cuticles are produced and the thicker the eponychium, a layer of living skin that protects the nail matrix. 

Through Eponychium Reshaping, we thin the eponychium, being careful never to remove it in its entirety.

By doing this, we’ve found that we can reduce splitting and hangnails.

Damaged Skin Removal

At Atelier Anaiis, we’ve seen how most people treat hangnails: By leaving them alone. But healing existing hangnails and reducing the number of future ones requires intentionally removing them so that the body can most efficiently heal itself.

Through our work, we’ve observed that prospects who bite their nails, pick on their nails, and have thin, brittle nails often struggle with hangnails.

They are not just a nuisance, but directly affect the health of the nail unit.

Through repeated Damaged Skin Removal, our clients come to have smooth skin surrounding their nails over time. 

Overgrown Hardened Skin Removal 

Overgrown Hardened Skin Removal addresses rough edges near the nail tips and hardened nail walls. These hardened skin are notoriously persistent, regardless of how much moisturizing you do, and are also one the biggest physical triggers for continued nail picking and nail biting. We’ve observed that their prolonged presence often hampers the rate of healthy nail growth. 

A healthy nail environment is continuously free of overgrown, hardened skin, instead being characterized by the maintenance of supple, flexible skin.

This is why your first appointment at Atelier Anaiis may require several corrective services in addition to The Signature Foundation Manicure. They aren't optional upgrades to the manicure. Together, they make up the treatment required to address the condition of the nail and surrounding skin we see in front of us.

5. Protection

As the final stage of an Atelier Anaiis service, polish is more than just window dressing. Instead, it serves a crucial role as a shield for your natural nails.

This is perhaps the biggest difference between an Atelier Anaiis manicure and a conventional manicure: color is not the service.

By the time we apply products, the majority of the work that determines the condition and appearance of your nails has already taken place.

At Atelier Anaiis, we exclusively use gel products, because it aligns most with our “Gel as Protection” philosophy. When cured properly, the products form a literal shield atop your nails, instead of breaking down and leaching into your keratin layers. 

Our gel application is what protects the natural nails from the bumps and bruises of daily life as they reshape and regrow over the coming weeks before your next appointment. Protection of the natural nails is crucial, just like clothes protecting your body. This is why we do not offer no-polish nail services. 

And because we’ve put in the work to set up the nail environment that will produce strong, healthy nails, color and nail art–as a result–look spectacular. We’ve come full circle: over time, you will have beautiful, healthy natural nails, maintained by the spectacular colors of Protection.

A Mental Shift

At the end of an Atelier Anaiis service, things may look beautifully simple: ten clean, polished nails. But what you see at the end is only the visible result of a much larger process.

Before the color came the assessment. The discussion. The shaping. The corrective work on the surrounding skin. The careful hand preparation. And finally, the protective structure designed to preserve that work for the weeks ahead.

This is why Atelier Anaiis services aren't selected à la carte. Eponychium Reshaping, Damaged Skin Removal, Overgrown Hardened Skin Removal, and The Signature Foundation Manicure aren't separate upgrades competing for a place in your appointment. When your nails require them, they work together as one treatment plan.

At Atelier Anaiis, a manicure isn't surface decoration. It's a system for rehabilitating, maintaining, and protecting the nail underneath it.
